Part indie rock, part modern "new music" composition, the music of Hannis Brown marries unconventional rock stylings with explosions of free jazz, the controlled chaos of groups like Battles and Dirty Projectors, and the pensive minimalism of Tortoise. After pursuing an undergraduate degree in jazz performance, Brown earned a graduate degree in composition from New York University. He currently lives in Los Angeles, scoring experimental films, collaborating with visual artists, and performing his unique brand of avant rock.
