Big John Bates & the Voodoo Dollz

Big John Bates & the Voodoo Dollz

Big John Bates & the Voodoo Dollz were an Americana / punkabilly / exotica group that released 4 studio albums and two live DVDs between 1999 and 2010. Bates toured the world incessantly for that time period, playing over 1000 shows in 19 countries. Their strongest fanbases were found in Holland, Germany, Western Canada and the Mid-Western USA.

The group featured Big John Bates on guitar and vocals, sCare-oline on upright bass and a revolving cast of drummers and burlesque dancers. Most were from the Vancouver area but performers from the UK, USA and elsewhere were a part of the touring group.

Their recording career began in 2001 with Flamethrower which eventually included the tracks from the 7" Vibro-Psychotic. It was followed by Mystiki in 2003, Take Your Medicine in 2005 and finally Bangtown in 2009. Each album was sonically unique, drawing from Bates' changing influences and each featured a different drummer. Read more on Last.fm.
