The Shotgun Genome was formed in 2013 out of the ashes of several recently-dissolved bands from Bloomington, Indiana. Originating as a jam band with a vaguely rotating lineup, the final roster of guitarists Matt Urban and Hugh Freeman, bassist and producer Karter Harmon (a.k.a. Valets), keyboardist "Young" Paul Taylor, and beat doctor Max Pretzer was eventually solidified. The quintet is notable for their high-energy live performances, melody-driven psychedelic arrangements, driving rhythms, and blending of a diverse array of styles, genres, and sounds.
