Doug May
Born in Anchorage Alaska in 1965, Doug May has been around the music business all of his life. His Mother Lea May has been singing professionally since before he was born. His biological father Tommy Jordan had played with such greats as Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash, Hank Williams Sr., Porter Wagoner, and Doug’s favorite musician, Merle Haggard.
Doug started out listening to his mother practicing with whatever band she was with at the time, and trying to keep the beat on an old broken snare drum. Doug eventually got a full drum kit, and started playing drums in his very first band “Revolver” at the age of 14. The young band was lacking in harmony vocals, so Doug took it upon himself to learn to sing the harmony parts to the lead singer of “Revolver” Chuck Cadrette, with the help of his very talented mother Lea May. Doug finally got the courage and confidence to sing lead vocals about a year later, and has been singing eversence.
Doug has played with his share of local bands in Central New York, such as his first band Revolver, Linda Patrick & The Santa Fe Riders, The New Roads Band, Amarillo, Crossroads, Doug May & The Yardcats, Seven Bridges, and a few more. Doug has also played with and opened up for many national acts, such as Willie Nelson, Bobby Bare, Hank Thompson, Claude Gray, Johnny Lee, Marie Osmond, Steppin’ Wolf, Juice Nuton, and many more.
Doug recorded his first solo album titled “Crossin’ My Fingers” in 1992. It consisted of 10 of his own original songs, and was played on radio stations in central New York. Two of the songs on that album “Do You Think Of Me”, and “Please Don’t Send Me Roses” won Billboard song writing awards.
