New York, United States (2010-2012) The Animal Upstairs is Andy "the Butcher" Mrotek (ex The Academy Is...) and Sierra Shardae. After two years of making music together, The Animal Upstairs announced it would disband on May 19, 2012. In the announcement of the band's dissolvement, it also informed fans that Andy Mrotek along with three other members of TAU (sans Shardae) are starting anew under a different name, Distant Cousins.
