
Arjan Brass
Arjan Brass (Delft, 11 juni 1951 - Nieuwegein, 28 december 2007) was een dutch singer and piano- and saxophoneplayer. He is most known from his hit Leonie (1976)
He grew up in Utrecht. From an early age he was interested in music. He started to learn to play flute and clarinet. Later he attended the music accademy. In those days he played in serveral bands from Utrecht, like The First Six, The Fashions, The Statues and Soul Fire. In the early '70 he started to work as a session musician.
In 1973 he was discoverd by DJ Chiel van Praag and his first single 'Tomorrow' was released, a song that he wrote himself. Although it did get airplay, it didn`t became a hit. At the end of 1976 his second single was released. Again he wrote lyrics and music for 'Leonie', a song about a lost love, himself. It did get positive reactions and reached number 20 in the charts. 2 months later he participated in the National Final for the Eurovision SongContest. He took part with the song "Annabelle" and ended with 4 points almost last. It didn`t had a positive effect, because his debutalbum 'Just a little song to you' didn`t sold good. At the end of 1977 "Samuel" was released on single without much effect.
After 1977 he mostly composed for other artists and worked as a sessionmusian and backgroundsinger again. In 1991 he released his last cd with popular songs like 'Nothing compares 2 u', 'Verdammt, ich lieb' dich' and 'Unchained melody', played on the saxophone. With his own company he could be booked for weddings and party`s.
