Ayota is fundamentally an ambient project and was conceived whilst Ski Oakenfull was lying in a Japanese hospital bed. He realised that the natural sounds around him (or found sound) could actually take the place of musically notated sound. So as soon as he was fit, he set about 'finding' sound.
The first demos were mainly solo laptop jams, but after enlisting the help of a Japanese friend's poetry and a Japanese female radio presenter to speak it, 'Helicopter Cuts' (the title of the album) was completed by spring of 2005.
