Coral Sant Jordi was started 60 years ago, in 1947, by a group of friends encouraged by the well-known figure of Oriol Martorell, who worked as conductor from the beginning and headed not only a unique way of interpreting and performing music, but also a certain social projection of music in connection with and committed to the history of Catalonia. Oriol Martorell’s contribution to Coral Sant Jordi has been of great importance, as he was the spirit and driving force behind a modern choir, a concept that can be understood from his own words:
