mercova is an experimental project by married couple Daphne Gere Gannon (vocals) and Peter Gannon (various instruments and programming) and originates in Denton, Texas. Its roots were in a collaboration by Daphne with Matt Piersall who later left the group. A 2001 "Dallas Observer" article by Bret McCabe called mercova's sound "like a tweaked Portishead, or a creepier take on To Rocco Rot," and indeed, the group's aesthetic plays with sound at a fundamental level and explores soundscapes ranging from trip hop to so-called art music.
