1978 and Dave Fletcher gets told by a mate about a great band with a new single out called "Tube Station" or something. Off they go to buy it and within days, Dave starts to learn the guitar at the ripe old age of 16. After a few years strumming along to 'Jam' tracks, Dave knows of a mate with a MOR band and asks to join for the experience and within a year the image of the band changed to 'Hush Puppies' and 'button downs' and was playing 'Jam' covers and a couple of Dave's first attempts at writing.

The name of this Portsmouth based band was "Treble X" and after some more time rehearsing it was decided to take the unusual step of recording a single before they had played their first gig. This double 'A' side was penned by fellow band member Nigel Beech and was entitled "What to look for"/"Used to be so lonely". It received local acclaim and local airplay and got the band noticed enough to attract fairly large crowds at gigs and to Dave's delight most of them were parka clad. Another double 'A' sided single was recorded and released, one side "Under the burning sun" again written by Nigel Beech and "So Happy", music by Dave Fletcher and lyrics by another friend Brendan Burton. Dave sang lead vocals on both tracks.

After a couple more years of gigging and sharing lead vocals, Dave feels he wants more of a raw edge to the music and wants to sing lead vocals full time and unable to do this in "Treble X", decides to leave.

Within Days, Dave is told of an excellent bass player who has just left a band and even better, is a Mod with a 'Ricky' bass, WOW! A couple more days and an ad goes in the local press and so enters 'Potsy', laid back and very loud. SO WAS BORN FLEET STREET.

Dave went into overdrive writing and putting together some tracks he had written while with Treble X, and the band went full time into rehearsing, and dying to see if the band had the right sound, they went into the studio and recorded their first 4 tracks, and yes, they had the beginnings of their sound...........

A couple of months later and they entered a South of England Battle of the Bands competition, their first live performance. In front of a 500 strong crowd and with nerves running high, the band stormed through a short set and feeling a bit disappointed that the tension made them a bit reserved, they left before the results were announced. They had come joint first and won a days recording.

Back to the studio and another 4 songs, and the album, "Twelve Angry Men" was then put out and received rave reviews from the world wide Mod press.

The band split in 1990. Steve (bass) disappeared off the face of the earth, Steve (drums) still plays in the Hampshire area and Dave (guitar) now resides in Portsmouth, still writing and recording.
