Andrea Maxand
Andrea Maxand started writing songs for the Bellingham, Washington pop act The Minerals in 1998. Since then she's returned to her native Seattle and written and recorded two solo albums for Montesano Records: the 2001 LP "Angel Hat" and the follow-up "Paper Cut" EP in 2002.
Maxand's second full-length album, "Where the Words Go" was released May 4, 2004. Her fourth and most recent release is "Edge of October" (April 13, 2010). "Edge of October" is a self-release. "Self: meaning: there is no record label. "Release" meaning: in 2010, the mastered versions of the songs were made available online for listening and for download. There are also old-fashioned physical cds available for purchase at cdbaby.com.
Both "Angel Hat" and "Paper Cut" were produced by Chris Walla, acclaimed for his work with The Long Winters, Tegan and Sara, and his own band Death Cab For Cutie.
Maxand's third release "Where the Words Go" features Death Cab's rhythm section: drummer Jason McGerr and bassist Nick Harmer. To complement the fuller, more ambitious sound she enlisted producer and multi-instrumentalist Charles R. Keller, another perennial of the Bellingham and Seattle scenes and a member (along with McGerr) of Neo and Eureka Farm.
Keller and Maxand recorded the album at Avast! studios in January 2003. "Where the Words Go" was released May 4, 2004 on the independent Chicago record label and publisher Ghostweed Press.
In the spring of 2006, Maxand embarked on a self-booked solo tour across the western United States, and returned with several new songs and a desire to commit them to tape. She entered the studio in the summer of 2006 with Seattle musicians Burke Thomas on drums (Muzzle, Vendetta Red), Michael Vermillion on bass (Vendetta Red), and Patrick Porter (Explone, Red Jacket Mine) on additional guitars and vocals. Seattle producer/engineer Shawn Simmons (Grand Hallway, Explone) produced and engineered at Studio Litho in Seattle, and as usual, the whole endeavor was recorded to 2-inch analog tape.
The result of those sessions has finally been released, as "Edge of October"'.
