Kauan sitten, joskus 1980-luvun alkupuolella, muutamat turkulaiset amatöörimuusikot päättivät perustaa yhtyeen. Kaakkois-Euroopan ja Lähi-Idän kansanmusiikista innoituksensa saaneen kokoonpanon nimeksi vakiintui vuosikymmenen lopulla Balkanin Juhla. Vuonna 1995 nimestä luovuttiin. Niin syntyi Transkaakko.
