Andrew Prahlow
Andrew Prahlow is a Los Angeles, CA based composer, songwriter, trumpeter, guitarist, and multi-instrumentalist raised in St. Louis, MO. Andrew has scored over 14 independent short films and is currently scoring the upcoming video game miniseries, Platinum’d, which premieres in March of 2011. Andrew has also interned for the composer John Powell, known for the Bourne series, Shrek, and How to Train Your Dragon.
Andrew has studied independently with the composer, conductor, and orchestrator Eric Schmidt (Uncharted 1, 2, & 3, D2: The Mighty Ducks) during the Fall and Winter of 2010, and the composer and arranger Jeff Kurtenacker (World of Warcraft, Pirates of the Burning Sea, Assault Heroes 2) during January of 2009.
Over the past few months, Andrew has studied with composers such as Harry Gregson-Williams (Chronicles of Narnia, Metal Gear Solid 2, The Town), Garry Schyman (Bioshock 1 & 2, Dante’s Inferno), Christopher Young, (Spider-Man 3, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Wonder Boys), Jack Smalley (Captain Planet, Knightrider, Charlie’s Angels, The Twilight Zone), Theodore Shapiro (Tropic Thunder, I Love You, Man, The Devil Wears Prada), and Edward Shearmur (Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Derailed).
Andrew also has an extensive songwriting background, producing, recording, and performing on multiple albums including the quirky St. Louis based hip-hop/pop group Nickelz & Dimez (nickelzdimez.bandcamp.com) and the Columbus, OH based indie rock group, The Ghostsurreal. His musical expertise has not only been used in film and album production, but also in media. Andrew has also written a variety of jingles for many projects, including KWLC radio of Decorah, IA.
Andrew attended the Capital University Conservatory of Music in Columbus, OH from Fall 2006-Spring 2008 for music technology and trumpet performance (Dr. Jim Stokes, Dr. Jim Reed, Dr. Barry Kopetz, Dr. Rocky Reuter). Andrew received a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree at Luther College, studying composition under Dr. Brooke Joyce, trumpet under Dr. Richard Tirk, and playing principal trumpet in the Luther College Symphony Orchestra for Dr. Daniel Baldwin. Andrew was a winner of a Summer 2009 Luther College Summer Research Grant, specializing in film music.
