Brainbheats

Brian’s love of music started with piano lessons at an early age, but it was exposure to the wonderfully twisted and beautiful work of jazz pianist Thelonious Monk while in high school that inspired him to leap with both feet into a life of music making. Brian’s piano training continued in college, where he majored in Jazz Studies at the University of Vermont. Intent on absorbing as much musical culture as possible, Brian went on to post-graduate studies at the University of Louisville, where his exploration of jazz and classical piano music earned him a Master’s degree in piano performance.

Along the way, Brian found himself frequently in demand as a performer in an eclectic mix of genres, and he found inspiration in music ranging from blues and bluegrass to reggae and latin music and beyond. Brian’s pursuit of new musical experiences led him to experimentation with electronic sounds and computer programming. Brian would spend hours in his home studio constructing music just for his own enjoyment, trying to imitate the complex, jazz-inflected programming of artists like Aphex Twin and Squarepusher, as well the ambient textures of artists such as Tortoise, Sigur Ros, and Brian Eno. In doing so, Brian’s own unique style began to develop, and Brainbheats was born. Read more on Last.fm.
