Longtemps considéré comme un groupe Sud Africain, ABOUTOU ROOTS est un groupe originaire de Lauzoa village insulaire de la région de Grand Lahou au sud de la Côte d’Ivoire. Pour animer la côte le soir après les durs travaux de pêche Angelo Papa, Akess Bilo, Réné Bibi et Dany Kwélé qui aujourd’hui ne fait plus partie du groupe , créent le groupe en 1986, le style musical s’apparente aux chansons populaires des animations de village qui ont lieu au clair de lune après les travaux champêtres.
