Martin trained and worked as a studio and location cameraman with UK facilities house Hillside Studios. In that time he developed lighting skills and began directing documentary programmes for TV. In 1988 Martin commenced his free-lance directing career, continuing to produce a string of popular documentaries as well as directing several children’s series for the ITV network. He also began editing. Firstly on linear off-line systems then graduating to non-linear systems and was one of the first users of Final Cut Pro.
