Children of Spy

Not too long ago, Nicholas Naioti was having a conversation with a child who was bragging about being on spring break. "I'm on spring break forever," Nicholas replied. He is not an unhappy
man - quite the opposite, in fact.
He says that's in part because he writes sad music, but the truth is the music isn't sad either - just wistful. He's a talented man, and frankly not bad-looking, but you have to get to know him to believe he's not a complete space cadet.
That's true about his music too - you might find it goofy at first, but digest it for a week; come back and you'll realize it all belongs, every guitar note in its place. I reckon Nick is at his most open and clearest in his music. He probably finds old songs in the back of his head the way you find old grocery lists in your shoulder-bag.
In that sense, you could think of his albums like scrapbooks. In each song you'll recognize old friends and lost lovers and ancestors and so on, and you won't be sad, but you might feel wistful.
