Alexis Pastuhov is a singer/songwriter and multi instrumentalist currently residing in Brooklyn, New York. Since 2008 Alexis has independently released four volumes of original music including an EP, two full length CD’s and a 7” vinyl record. Originally hailing from Maine, Alexis established himself as a solo performer within the diverse music scene in Portland where he gigged regularly for several years and developed a small but faithful fan base. In 2010 Pastuhov moved to Fort Collins, Colorado and began writing and recording material for what would become his 2013 release Murder Your Darlings an album that Scene Magazine gave 4.5 out of 5 stars. With the help of a successful Kickstarter campaign Pastuhov and co-producer Nat Lordt Nelson took a DIY approach and recorded the entire album themselves using simple techniques and recording equipment . The success of the Kickstarter campaign also made possible the release of a limited edition 7” vinyl record featuring two songs not included on Murder Your Darlings distributed as a reward to financial backers.

With each release Pastuhov’s music grows in scope and artistic vision. His songs reflect a place in time both mentally and geographically and shift thematically from the simple and reserved to the cryptic and obscene. Having lived and traveled all across the country playing music and meeting new people there is movement to his songs, a sense of restlessness coupled with a simultaneous desire to be still. As a self-taught musician Pastuhov is always trying to learn and develop new ways to approach his music and to reevaluate what it means to be a songwriter. There is a relatable and familiar quality to his music that as a listener pulls you in and takes you to a place that is both reminiscent and recognizable but also new and unexplored.

Now with a new CD to add to an ever-growing discography and a new city to call home Alexis is eager to plant roots and establish himself as an emerging artist in the NYC music scene. And while he may claim to still be in process of finding his place and purpose in the world of songwriting it is clear after the first listen that he is undoubtedly at home and heading in the right direction.
