Angela Perley & The Howlin' Moons
Angela Perley & The Howlin' Moons formed in 2009 after Angela's homemade demos, which were wrapped in brown paper lunch bags, caught the ear of Fred Blitzer from Vital Music USA. He had received Angela's paper-bag demos from a college roomate of Angela's who was interning at Vital Companies. Fred was drawn to Angela's vision, unique style, and rootsy, soulful songwriting. He called up musicians Chris Connor (guitar) and Bill Zehnal (bass) to check out Angela's music and they immediately began recording a four part EP series which culminated with their latest EP, Nowere is Now Here. The group's first three EPs are Black Cat (2010), Yellow Moon (2011), and Fireside (2011), which gained steady radio attention in the UK. For several years the group bounced between different drummers and organ players while they expanded their live sound and traveled as much as they could to perform and spread their music. In 2011, the group gained drummer, Steve Rupp, who has been a steady force behind the band. With underlying roots in old time country, it's hard to put Angela Perley & The Howlin' Moons in one category because they are always evolving and pushing musical boundries with their songs and unique sound. The group takes on rockabilly, americana, blues, and alt-country and have an energy that is captivating, fresh, and haunting. Read more on Last.fm.
