Unearthed was started in late 2003 when Dave Abell and Bill Owen, former Purgatory band mates, started writing music together again. They called their friend Gene Adam (Purgatory, Iced Earth) to handle the vocal duties. They entered Red Room Recorders studio and recorded their first demo with Mark Prator producing, engineering and playing drums on the record. Richard Bateman (Purgatory, Agent Steel, Nocturnus, Nasty Savage, Gardy-Loo!) then joined the band and shortly there after Chris Maraman took over on drums.
