LaChanze attended the University of Arts in Philadelphia as a theater dance major where she landed a role as a tap dancer in an ensemble production of Uptown…It's Hot. After performing at the Tropicana Hotel in Atlantic City, LaChanze and the cast were off to Broadway. Since that fateful trip, she has starred in the Broadway productions of Once on This Island for which she received Tony and Drama Desk nominations, Ragtime and Company.
