Anthony Orio
Anthony waited a long time for, and spent many nights dreaming about, the moment when he would take the stage at the Grand Ole Opry. That moment finally came in August of 2001. He performed two original songs that night and had the honor of sharing the stage with country music legends Little Jimmy Dickens and Porter Wagoner, as well as with some of today’s country music stars, including Hal Ketchum. The performance at the Opry was such a success that Anthony was invited to return the following year to perform two more original songs.
Anthony began his performance career at the early age of five years old by performing in school musicals, community benefits, and talent competitions in southeast Pennsylvania. He made his first trip to Nashville, Tennessee in 1995 at the age of fourteen. He recorded his first demo package on that trip, in addition to showcasing his talents at several songwriters’ clubs, including The Bluebird Café and The Broken Spoke Café.
Since moving to Nashville in 1999, Anthony has penned over one hundred original songs, some of which have been published at Universal Music, Jody Williams Music, and Major Bob Music. He has also performed many of them in featured rounds at the world famous Bluebird Café, and he continues to be on the Bluebird’s regular rotation of featured writers. Anthony has also entertained at 3rd & Lindsley, Douglas Corner Café, and various other musical venues. He has been featured by ASCAP during “Hot on the Row,” a performance series designed to showcase Nashville’s up and coming singer/songwriters, and he performed at the 2005 Tennessee Valley Fair in Knoxville. Of course, the performances at the Grand Ole Opry remain Anthony’s most prestigious and significant performances.
Anthony has also released two independent records since 2001. His most recent release, “You Gotta Start Somewhere,” features eight original songs. Anthony plans to begin work on a new studio album sometime in the near future.
Currently, Anthony can be found entertaining crowds several nights a week with his band, The Goodfellers, at Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge on Lower Broadway in Nashville. Anthony and the guys also take their rock infused version of country music on the road, spending weekends touring throughout the southeast.
Anthony says, “Ever since I first stepped on to a stage, over 18 years ago, I knew that I was meant to be a performer. I can’t think of any place in the world I would rather be than with an audience, sharing music.” Read more on Last.fm.
