In 1995, Neville Meredith got together with bass player and drummer Russell Grooms after spending several years working as a sound engineer and music producer. The two had played together in a band called Shuzbutt.
They started recording under the name Crisis, but soon changed it to UK Crisis to avoid confusion with the many other bands named Crisis at the time.
