Isabel Marques da Silva, or simply Zabé, was born in 1924 in Buíque, a small town in the sertão of Pernambuco, another state in the northeast of Brazil, When Zabé was still young she moved to Monteiro, where she lived in a small cave (denominated regionally as "loca") for twenty five years with her two sons.
