Clifford Curry
Knoxville, Tennessee native Clifford Curry joined R&B act the Echoes as a high school senior in 1955, traveled Northeast with them, and composed the semi-hit "Mr. Moon" the following year after they were signed to Savoy Records and became the Five Pennies. Returning to Nashville after the release of several more chart disappointments, Curry soon joined the Bingos (later Hollyhocks) and with them recorded several singles for Excello subsidiary Nasco. 1959 found Curry with the Clarkdale, Tennessee-based Bubba Suggs Band, with whom he remained until going solo in 1964 and enjoying 1967 chart success with "She Shot a Hole in My Soul," which peaked at number 45 in the pop listings. Curry continued to release singles for small labels into the mid-1980's and remains a presence on the live R&B/soul/"beach music" circuit. Read more on Last.fm.
