Carl Lenthe

Carl Lenthe is a trombone player of the highest caliber. He studied at the Curtis Institute of Music and became the principal trombonist at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Germany at age 20, where he remained for 17 years. After this, he became the principal trombonist for the Bamberg Symphony as well as serving on the orchestra's executive committee.

Lenthe's accomplishments are numerous. He won first place with special distinction at Prague Spring, the international music competition, and he has been a soloist with the Prague Symphony, the Banberg Symphony, and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. His solo CD "The Audition Window" which contains many standard contest and audition pieces for the trombone, has met with critical acclaim.

Carl Lenthe's talents as an orchestral trombonist have led him to be a frequent guest with the Berlin Philharmonic, Munich Philharmonic, Maggio Musicale in Florence and many other major orchestras in Europe. He is also an expert on the Wagnerian bass trumpet, and this keeps him in regular demand in many European opera houses. Among U.S. symphonies, he has performed with the Boston Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, and the Philadelphia Orchestra.
