Hemoglobina
At the end of 1999, two Angolans belonging to Wave Gang, one of the hottest underground crews in the country, decided to start a new project which can now be heard all over in hi-fi sets, discmans, minidisks, walkmans, mp3 players, video tapes and live shows. This spectacular group called Hemoglobina consists of Denexl (mc) and Contrario (mc and producer). Thus began a saga:
In the year 2000, Contrario and DNXL participated in the first Angolan mixtape Ruas de Luanda (streets of Luanda) by the famous Dj Samurai
In 2001, the group released their first work, the EP Carnes (meat), the first underground Hip-Hop CD released in Angola and entirely produced in Luanda, the capital of Angola. The 9 tracks produced by Contrario and one by Airmack, were put out on dj Samurai’s label Madtapes. The cd was heard in Luanda, Benguela, in other provinces from Angola and other countries
In the year 2002 Hemoglobina released Fogo Cruzado (mixed fire), the first mixtape-cd made by Angolans in Angola. This tape featured 30 Angolan emcees such as Bob da Rage Sense, Mata-Frakuxz, Patriarca, Mente Profunda and crews like Poli-Valentes, Absolutos, Fia & Buta, Alianca Subterranea, As Pragas, Facinoras and also the participation of two Portugueses mc’s (FidBek and VRZ)
At the end of 2002, Contrario and DNXL released a compilation titled A Recolha Vol.1 (The Recollected), which like the title says was a collection of lesser known songs and some freestyles;
In the beginning of the year, 2003, the group released the promotional single for their album. The single had 3 songs (Ideografia, Estilo Hermetico parte1 and the success Sentimento). The single continued to sell until October, the month that Hemoglobina released their long awaited album titled Alegrias e Tristezas (sadness and happiness). The album was generally considered the best album in the history of the Angolan Hip-Hop Underground.
Heard in Angola, Portugal, South Africa, Russia, England, Netherlands, Brazil, Mozambique and other countries, the album contains 19 tracks including Sociedade Civil, Estilo Hermético parte 2, Evolução Mental, Mundo Bélico, P.L.V., Sentimento, Sonho Africano, 180 graus, O Último Fio da Corda e Espécie Contraspécie. The CD features emcees Dega (Inkisição), Excal Shine, Rude and Mente Profunda (Rede Tribal), Fia & Buta, Aluno Mestre (Aliança Subterrânea) and Dj Tiouwhy who laid some scratches in the tracks P.L.V., Regrets, and Caiu o Pano.
The album was produced by some of the best Angolan producers Contrario, Kqoveiru, RK, Airmack and ZP. The album has the graphic support of Bruno Almeida, and was all recorded and mixed in Luanda-Angola in the Forno Studios by Kqoveiru-Mario Pinho, released and distributed by Wave Gang Records while executive production was in the hands of Contrario and DNXL.
The group is now preparing a new adventure, which will soon be presented. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
