Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman performed together in several songs for the Baz Luhrmann film Moulin Rouge! (www.clubmoulinrouge.com), an Australian musical/romantic comedy released in 2001 and in which they played leading roles. The film's story is based loosely on the Giuseppe Verdi opera La Traviata, and some songs are performed in a modern interpretation of operatic style. Individually, Ewan has sung on other film soundtracks before and since, while Nicole began her vocal performances with this film and has since sung on other soundtracks and colaborated with Robbie Williams.
