Arthur Kempel

Composer Arthur Kempel died March 3 in Los Angeles of stomach cancer. He was 58.

Kempel composed for both television and film, including features such as "Double Impact" and "The Arrival." On television, he compsed for "Tiny Toon Adventures" and "Ripley's Believe It or Not."

He received an Emmy nom for TV movie "A Fire in the Dark" and a Cable Ace Nom for TV movie "Riders of the Purple Sage."

Originally from Florida, he attended Boston's Berklee School of Music and began doing arrangements for local television and radio in Boston.

After moving to Los Angeles, he began writing arrangement for artists including Gladys Knight, Glen Campbell, Bette Midler, Barry Manilow and Cher. He also worked on TV shows including "Matlock," "Remington Steele," "Falcon Crest" and "Twilight Zone."

He is survived by his wife Deborah.
