Osvaldo Pugliese (1905-1995) is generally regarded as one of the greatest tango orchestra leaders of the Golden Age of Tango. He lead his orchestra from piano. His music has a very distinctive style which alternates strong rhythms driven by the piano and bandoneons with lyrical string passages. He composed a number of famous tangos, most notably Recuerdo (although there is some dispute about his authorship of this tango).
