A Gentle Awakening Lyrics

Put Down the paper, Baby
I had a dream at dawn
A terrible storm blew over
Covered up the morning sun
Beyond I heard a lullaby,
So peaceful and serene.
Next thing I knew I eased into
A Gentle Awakening.
(piano solo)
The people on the city streets,
The farmers on the plains,
Are walkin in a lucid dream
while the sky is set aflame
They soon will hear a quiet tune

So peaceful and serene
That they may, too, ease into
A Gentle Awakening.
(piano solo)
Wading (Waiting?) through a waited (a weighted? awaited?) move,
An unknown masquerade
Hear the warning mocking bird
A mournful serenade
(Piano Solo)
The people on the city streets
The farmers on the plains
Are walkin in a lucid dream
while the sky is set aflame
They soon will hear a quiet tune
So peaceful and serene
That they may, too, ease into
A Gentle Awakening.
(Piano Solo)

Sometimes the most American of settings can reveal the deepest artistic talents the world has ever known. Johnny Cash on the farms of Arkansas, Mike Ness on the mean streets of Los Angeles, and a skinny kid from the ghettos of Tupelo named Elvis who happened to be brimming with soul. JD Mcpherson is one of those talents cut from that same artistic cloth. Growing up in southern Oklahoma, Mcpherson, the progeny of an ex-military, farming father and “good word” preaching mother, Mcpherson had an intriguing childhood and those influences shine blissfully through his music.
