A Love of My Own Lyrics

I look at the mountain, I look at the sun
I look at everything Mother Nature has done
Then I wanna know
Why can't I find a love of my ownI look at the skyline, I look at the trees
I look at the moonlight, I feel the soft breeze
Then I wanna know
Why can't I find a love of my ownLove, how I've waited for you
But it looks like you'll never come
So I sit down, sit down and think the thing over
Is it something I've done?I look at the flowers in fullest bloom
I should be happy but I'm filled with gloom
'Cause I wanna know
Why can't I find a love of my own'Cause I wanna know
Why can't I find a love of my own

Carla Thomas (born December 21, 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee) is often referred to as the Queen of Memphis Soul. At the age of 17, she recorded a duet with her father Rufus Thomas, "Because I Love You" , which became a Southern hit and gave the Satellite label (later Stax Records) its first real success. In 1961 she rose to national prominence with "Gee Whiz (Look in His Eyes)", which reached the Top Ten in both the R&B and Pop categories, becoming the first Memphis soul record to have an impact nationwide and insuring the success of the Stax Records label.
