Absence of Light Lyrics

Life as we know is full of gloom
Oppress the masses, we'll lead to our doom
We want the right to live or die
You can't take away what we feel insideLike empty shadows afflict our brains
Envision dreams just to ease the pain
There's more to life than to satisfy
I ask myself for the reasons whyIf it were my way
I'd deliver us from this hell
If it were my wayIf it were my wayIf ever there comes a day
Renovations blown away
Realize what we've thrown awayIs there no end to this endless war
The fear of man is now what's in store
We look at life as a memory
Long live the dreams that they took from meIf it were my way
I'd deliver us from this hell
If it were my wayIf it were my way

Testament was one of the first thrash metal bands to emerge from the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1980s. Originally formed as 'Legacy' in 1983 by founding members Eric Peterson (rhythm guitar), Derrick Ramirez (guitar) and Louie Clemente (drums), the line-up included vocalist Steve Souza and Greg Christian (bass). Ramirez was later replaced by wunderkind Alex Skolnick (lead guitar). Souza soon departed to join Exodus and suggested that the towering Chuck Billy take over as frontman(and was later run over by a bus).
