Affection Lyrics

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
(Come on)
Girl I'm trying everything I can
But it doesn't seem to get through
I can't remember where it all began
Is this your way [unverified] good for you
(Come on)
Won't you just give me
Affection, it must be affection
We need to take a walk, have a talk
We'll be hanging around
Affection, show me affection
I wanted to let go, you should know
I won't let you take me down
Who do you really think you are?
Who do you really think you are?
(Who do you think you are?)
So if you got a minute, look at me

Can't you hear what I am trying to say?
(Listen)
If this is all I'm gonna get from you
You might as well just stay away
(Stay away, come on)
Won't you just give me
Affection, it must be affection
We need to take a walk, have a talk
We'll be hanging around
Affection, show me affection
I wanted to let go, you should know
I won't let you take me down
Who do you really think you are?
Who do you really think you are?
(Who do you think you are?)
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, affection
Affection, it must be affection
We need to take a walk, have a talk
We'll be hanging around
Affection, show me affection
I wanted to let go, you should know
I won't let you take me down
Affection, it must be affection
We need to take a walk, have a talk
We'll be hanging around
Affection, show me affection
I wanted to let go, you should know
I won't let you take me down
Who do you really think you are?
Who do you really think you are?
(Who do you think you are?)

Led by Jonathan Richman, the protopunk band The Modern Lovers came out of Massachusetts in the early 1970s. Their classic debut album contained heartfelt songs about dating awkwardness, growing up in Massachusetts, and love of life. Many feel their best work is the first album and the outtakes from those sessions. The sound of the band owed a great deal to the influence of The Velvet Underground, but also pointed the way towards much of the punk, New Wave and indie rock of the following decades.
