Antipope Lyrics

I'm going back to church tonight
Just like back when I was eight
But I don't mean to pray
I'm gonna nick the collection plateI've got nothing against church
Or any people who go there and show they're
Plain ignorant and don't understand
A congregation at weekends won't change their behaviour
So many people are weak
And then have to seek answers from the pedlars of hope
I should know I used to go there myself
That's the day I became antipopeThere's gonna be some fun tonight
Spreading news around the town
That the vicar's a transvestite
With a fetish for robes and gowns[chorus]Religion doesn't mean a thing
It's just another way of being right wing
I think sex films are okay
I don't dig that pope no way[chorus]

Girlyman is an American folk-rock band formerly based in Brooklyn, New York in 2001 but now mostly living in Atlanta, Georgia. Their self-released debut album, Remember Who I Am, sold 5,000 copies before it was re-released by Daemon Records, the independent record label run by Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls. Their folk-rock musical style is heavy on close harmony. Before the three came together as Girlyman, Nate was an award-winning singer-songwriter, and Doris and Ty (best friends since second grade in Princeton Junction, NJ) were the award-winning duo The Garden Verge.
