Awakening - Brian Morykon

I am loved by God. That’s my core identity, and I’m slowly believing it. On any given day you might find me designing a web app, leading worship, doing homeschool with my daughters or writing a song. I'm a left-brained feeler, an analytical artist, a recovering perfectionist.

Over the years I've lead worship part-time in various churches. My energy while leading worship used to be spent towards Getting It Right. Now I try to use that energy toward surrendering to God. It's more enjoyable that way for everyone, especially God.

Lately I've embraced the life of a minstrel, singing songs and sharing stories wherever the the Wind takes me. There's such beauty in our diversity, Presbyterian to Pentecostal, cathedrals to corner stores. It's become my mission to uncover the goodness in all the streams of Christendom. It's there, even if you have to wade in deep for it.

Renovaré, an organization founded by Celebration of Disciplines author Richard Foster, shares my heart for unity across the entire Church. I have the privilege of doing some conferences and retreats with them.

While songwriting has been part of my life for many years, it wasn't until 2013 that my first full-length album, The Smallest Seed, found the light of day. It's perfect timing because only recently has my mind finally let my heart be in the driver's seat. Luke Skaggs, the album's producer turned close friend, helped me uncover my voice and shake loose of insecurities. I'm proud of the record, but more than that I'm thankful how the making of it shaped my soul. My favorite albums are ones that require a little work from the listener, and I'm happy to say this is one of those. Grab it above if you haven't already—it's free during 2013.
