Backwater Blues Lyrics

Said when it rains five days and skies turn dark as night
Said when it rains five days and skies turn dark as night
There's trouble's takin' place in the lowlands at nightAnd I'm backwater blues done call me to pack my things and go
And I'm backwater blues done call me to pack my things and go
'Cause my house fell down, can't live there no more, no moreWhen it rains five days and the skies turn dark as night
Said when it rains five days and the skies turn dark as night
There's trouble's takin' place in the lowlands tonightI woke up this mornin', can't even get out of my door
I woke up this mornin', can't even get out of my door
There's been so much trouble, make a poor boy
Wonder where he wanna goAnd I'm backwater blues done call me to pack my things and go
And I'm backwater blues done call me to pack my things and go
'Cause my house fell down, can't go there no more, noWhen it thunders and lightnin' and the wind begins to blow
When it thunders and lightnin' and the wind begins to blow
There's thousands of people ain't got no where to go, noAnd I'm backwater blues done call me to pack my things and go
And I'm backwater blues done call me to pack my things and go
'Cause my house fell down, can't go there no more, no moreOh, the rain's pourin', baby, yesI went out to the lonesome, high old lonesome hill
I went out [Incomprehensible], high old lonesome hill
I looked down on that place where I used to liveAnd I'm backwater blues done call me to pack my things and go

And I'm backwater blues done call me to pack my things and go
'Cause my house fell down, can't go home no more, noAnd I'm backwater blues, and I'm backwater blues
And I'm backwater blues, and I'm backwater blues
Yeah, my house fell down, can't go home no more
No more, no more

Kenny Wayne Shepherd and his group exploded on the scene in the mid-'90s and garnered huge amounts of radio airplay on commercial radio, which historically has not been a solid home for blues and blues-rock music, with the exception of Stevie Ray Vaughan in the mid-'80s. Shepherd was born June 12, 1977, in Shreveport, LA. The Shreveport native began playing at age seven, figuring out Muddy Waters licks from his father's record collection (he has never taken a formal lesson).
