Bottom of the Well Lyrics

I gotta get out, I gotta break free
Ain't gonna live in misery
My minds made up, I'm leaving today
Come hell or high water, I will break these chains
Gonna scratch my way, or claw my way
And dig my way, back to the top
'Cause I never say die, I never give in
I never stop giving it all that I got
I'm breaking out of hell
From the bottom of the well
It's a long way down
From the bottom of the well
I gotta get out
From the bottom of the well
It's so dark and cold down here
I'm all alone but I got no fear
'Cause I have the will to beat this fate
And get back up to the light of day

I'm gonna scratch my way, claw my way
Dig my way, back to the top
'Cause I never say die, I never give in
I never stop giving it all that I got
I'm breaking out of hell
From the bottom of the well
It's a long way down
From the bottom of the well
I gotta get out
Digging and clawing
And scratching and kicking my way
Back to the top I will fight
For the light of day
Gonna find the way, yeah
I made a death wish and it came true
I'm under water black and blue
But if you think I'm done you better think again
'Cause I don't know the meaning of death
I'm gonna scratch my way, claw my way
Never stop giving it all that I got
I'm breaking out of hell
I'm breaking out of hell
From the bottom of the well
It's a long way down
From the bottom of the well
I gotta get out
From the bottom of the well
I gotta get out
The bottom of the well
I gotta get out
From the bottom of the well
I gotta get out
The bottom of the well
I gotta get out
From the bottom of the well
It's a long way down
From the bottom of the well
I gotta get out
I'm breaking out of hell

Not unlike most plants and animals, drummer/percussionist/electronic musician/producer Joshua Van Tassel has been making sound since he was born.. Born and raised in rural Nova Scotia, Joshua studied rmusic at St. Francis Xavier University, the Banff Centre for the Arts, and Humber College, and where he received a Zildjian Cymbals Scholarship. He currently lives in Toronto where he continues to make many different sounds.

While best known for his sideman work with multiple ECMA award winner David Myles, Joshua Cockerill, Royal Wood, the Kate Rogers Band, Ronley Teper, Selina Martin, Valery Gore, The Outlanders, and many others, Joshua has an active solo career as well. Music from his 2008 debut “One Window”, and follow up ep’s “Nighttimer” and “Everyone Has it All” have been featured on the Outdoor Life Network show Departures, while his newest self titled album (released Sept. 2011) has received critical acclaim from the CBC, the Toronto Star, and NOW magazine.

“Quite possibly the most haunting song we’ve heard this year. The alchemy is remarkable”

John Sakamoto, #1 on the Toronto Star Anti Hit list

“And it’s easy to see why his music has been used in theatre and TV: it’s fresh, accessible sonic experimentation, as inviting as it is unpredictable.”

Sarah Greene, NOW Magazine

“Joshua’s songs maybe be born from the tradition of folk, but refuse to align to any of the standard definitions….From start to finish, Joshua keeps you engaged but when he hits his stride you hear an artist with the potential to stand side by side with the talent he normally sits behind.”

Herohill.com

“Joshua Van Tassel has made music that feels like I am guided by the magical lady of the lake. It’s a trip I don’t want to end. Ever.”
