Burning the Midnight Oil Lyrics

Here we sit lookin' at each other
Seems we're at a loss for what to say
Ties bind us both with someone else
We don't want to hurt but we must break awayAnd tonight I'll sit home a thinking
And tonight I'll sit home a drinking
We both live in seperate homes where there's no love at all
Stayin' up late burning the midnight oil
[ fiddle - steel ]
Tomorrow we'll meet here in the same place
Where love and desires just won't wait
In each other's arms we'll dream for a little while
Then when it's time to leave it'll nearly drive us wild
And tonight again I'll sit home a thinking...
Stayin' up late burning the midnight oil

Dolly Parton started singing with Porter Wagoner on his TV show and was with him for a long time before she left. Porter promptly sued. Dolly used to say that she and Porter Wagoner had a love/hate relationship. She loved him and he hated her! She knew that in a way she owed her career to him. But in turn, he owed a lot of his success to her. Porter was well known for his flashy suits (Nudie Suits)
Dolly is still going strong, while Porter died of lung cancer last month (October 2007)

There is a Porter Wagoner Boulevard in his home town of West Plains, Missouri. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
