Chalk Outline Lyrics

I've been cursed, I've been crossed
I've been beaten by the ones that get me off
I've been cut, I've been opened up
I've been shattered by the ones I thought I loved
(Chorus)
You left me here like a chalk outline
On the sidewalk waiting for the rain to wash away, wash away
You keep coming back to the scene of the crime
But the dead can't speak and there's nothing left to say anyway
All you left behind is a chalk outline
I've been cold in the crypt
But not as cold as the words across your lips
You'll be sorry baby some day
When you reach across the bed where my body used to lay
(Chorus)
You left me here like a chalk outline
On the sidewalk waiting for the rain to wash away, wash away

You keep coming back to the scene of the crime
But the dead can't speak and there's nothing left to say anyway
All you left behind is a chalk outline
All you left behind is a chalk outline
(All you left behind)
(Chorus)
You left me here like a chalk outline
On the sidewalk waiting for the rain to wash away, wash away
You keep coming back to the scene of the crime
But the dead can't speak and there's nothing left to say anyway
All you left behind is a chalk outline

CHRIS PICKERING is an exceptionally talented singer, musician and songwriter, who writes remarkable songs with beautiful melodies, smart hooks and thoughtful lyrics.

CP fearlessly tackles all manner of styles and arrangements, introducing flavours of pop, rock, country, bluegrass, folk, blues and psychedelia in his music.

Bridging the gap between indie-pop and alt-country, he’s close to truly claiming a style all his own. His latest album, Work Of Fiction, his third long player, was released in October 2010 and is already garnering strong critical acclaim:

“Well written, superbly executed timeless pop? Absolutely!”
– Rhythms Magazine

“From start to finish this is a polished and graceful outing from Pickering, with roots that go down deep into country and soul music.” – Courier Mail

The song and second single from the album, ‘Fisherman’s Daughter,’ has already received strong airplay and the clip has been added to rotation on the Country Music Channel.

Since releasing his debut EP Hard To Find in 2004 and the follow-up album A Safer Place, he’s been winning over audiences throughout Australia and the United States with his distinctive sound that combines soaring melodies with lyrics that paint vivid pictures of life in - and out - of the country.

In 2006, CP released his next EP, Ghost City. Produced by ARIA Award-winning legend, Magoo, Ghost City earned CP a swag of rave reviews. The accolades continued in 2006 when he won his first Q Song Songwriting Award for ‘Better Off’ (from A Safer Place LP).

CP’s reputation as a musician on the rise was cemented in August 2007, when he secured his second Q Song Award for ‘The Humming Song’, featured on his latest album, Excuses Excuses.

2008 began on a high note with the independent launch of Excuses Excuses to a full-house at the Brisbane Powerhouse and rave press reviews. In March, CP showcased at the prestigious SxSW event in Austin TX, followed by performances and co-writing in Nashville, TN. CP returned to Tennessee in July to gig and co-write in Nashville and headline in Memphis. He was a finalist in three categories of the 2008 Q Song Awards (People’s Choice, Pop, Country) and a semi-finalist in the UK Songwriting Awards.

His album, Excuses Excuses, was picked up by Australian record label, THINK (Fuse Music Group) and re-released in May 2009.

2009 saw CP showcasing at the North American Folk Alliance, Memphis TN, as well as MusExpo, LA, and residing in Nashville for most of the year.

In November 2009 he recorded his latest album, Work Of Fiction, at Ardent Studios in Memphis with iconic producer, Don Nix (STAX). It was released in Australia/New Zealand in October 2010 on the Longtime Listener label.

2011 sees CP residing in Tennessee, writing and touring.
