Church House Steps Lyrics

Oh, I sat down upon the church house steps
I sat down upon the church house steps
I sat down upon the church house
Down upon the church house steps
With all my hopes and dreams all of my regrets
(Down upon the church house steps)
Oh, I sat down upon the church house steps
I sat down upon the church house steps
I sat down upon the church house steps
I sat down upon the church house steps
With all I have lost and with all I have been blessed
(Down upon the church house steps)
Oh, I sat down upon the church house steps
Oh, I sat down upon the church house steps
Oh, I sat down upon the church house steps
I sat down upon the church house steps
I reached to the sky as I hung my head and wept, oh I wept
Oh, I sat down, oh, I sat down

(If these wings should fail me)
I sat down, oh, I sat down
(Leave me with another pair)
If these wings, if they fail me
(If these wings should fail me)
If they fail me, won't you leave me
(Leave me with another pair)
Oh, with another, oh with another
With another pair?
(If these wings should fail me)
Oh, with another pair
(Leave me with another pair)
Oh, I sat down, oh, I sat down
(Church house steps)
Oh, with another pair
(Church house steps)
(Down upon the church house steps)
With another, with another pair
(Church house steps)
(If these wings should fail me)
Don't fail me now, don't you fail me now
(Church house steps)
(Down upon the church house steps)
(If these wings should fail me)
Oh, I sat down upon the church house steps
I sat down upon the church
(Leave me with another pair)
I sat down upon the church house steps
I sat down upon the church house steps
(If these wings should fail me)
(Down upon the church house steps)

When The Blind Boys of Alabama open their mouths to sing, what comes out is older than salvation, older than redemption. It is the sound of oppression and struggle. It is the sound of revelation and liberation. It is a sound as old as time. The Blind Boys of Alabama are the pyramids of gospel music; the birthplace of sacred soul.
The three original members of the group, (which started out in 1939, as The Five Blind Boys Of Alabama) Clarence Fountain, Jimmy Carter, and George Scott, are all in their mid to late seventies and are all completely blind.
