Detour Lyrics

Nothing can hold me back
I'm stronger than before
You tried to knock me out
But I'm coming back for more
You and your selfish ways
You tried to hold me down
You bet that I would lose
But it's you who's losing now
'Cause I'm on the detour
I've been fortunate to take the detour
There's no thrifin' partner on the detour
I've been fortunate to take the detour
They smile up in my face
Than stab me in the back
You didn't soul me out
You have to live with that

Turn on the TV screen
Flip on the radio
You can't get rid of me
My things unstoppable
'Cause I take the detour
I've been fortunate to take the detour
You can't stop me on the detour
I've been fortunate to take the detour
Should've believed in me
Should've never pulled me out
Said I would never be
I don't need you and your doubts
Didn't want to see
Didn't want to see me reach my destiny
Should've never pulled me out
I don't need you and your doubts
Didn't want to see me reach my destiny
Dance
Detour
Detour
There's no thrifin' partner
I've been fortunate
Detour

It is hard to overestimate the influence Duane Eddy had on the rock instrumental groups that proliferated in the late 50s and early 60s. There were plenty of musicians playing rock'n'roll before he came along, but Duane was the first instrumentalist to achieve pop star status. His spell at Jami Records resulted in no less than 20 entries in Billboard's Top 100 chart between 1958 and 1961, bringing the guitar to the fore as a potent rock'n'roll symbol and inspiring and influencing most of the musicians in the surf genre.
