Doris Day Lyrics

I saw her wait, waitng at the bus stop
Watching as her tears dropped
Like pennies down a well
Oh well
We can drink until the sun comes up
I never let a good thing go
So I'll stay here if you're not leaving
I am on your side
This house is empty
We could cross the line
And we could make a big mistake
The silence breaks and you hear me say
"Don't go, don't go so far away"
(You don't have to go)
"Don't go, don't go so far away"
You don't have to go
I saw your man, fast car and a dark suntan
You said he's in a punk-rock band

But baby, punk-rock's dead
Oh well
We can drink till you forget about him
It's not like he waits up for you
I'm sure he'd do the same thing too
But I am on your side
This house is empty
We could cross the line
And we could make a big mistake
The silence breaks and you hear me say
"Don't go, don't go so far away"
(You don't have to go)
"Don't go, don't go so far away"
You don't have to
I knew it was a crime
I did it anyway
I tell him we're like magnets
I tell him I feel no shame
If I crawl into your blood
Can I sleep under your skin?
C'mon let me in
Don't make me wait
I am on your side
This house is empty
We could cross the line
And we could be making a big mistake
The silence breaks and you hear me say
"Don't go, don't go so far away" [x5]
You don't have to go
You don't have to go

Sordid Humor was a musical band formed in San Francisco, CA in 1987 by the duo of Tom Barnes and Jim Gordon. Barnes' unique vocal style was the trademark of Sordid Humor, and he went on to lend his vocals and alt-rock guitar style to Engine 88. Sordid Humor played what, at the time, could best be classified as college rock, releasing several independent releases before breaking up in 1992. The only album now available, Light Music For Dying People, was released posthumously by Capricorn Records in 1994.

Despite their very limited success, Sordid Humor's music has survived in the choices of College DJs. They are notable if only for bringing together musicians such as Adam Duritz, who sang backing vocals on "Barbarossa" and several other tracks on Light Music, David Immerglück, who played bass on several tracks of the album, and Dave Bryson who produced several of their tracks: musicians who had much more success as Counting Crows - later covering "Private Archipelago" and "Jumping Jesus", and using lyrics from "Private Archipelago" and "Doris Day" in live extended versions of their own songs.
