Down The Road I Go Lyrics

Yeah, let me tell you baby, if you want to pin me down
Better get your hammer girl and nail me to the ground
'Cause you won't find no grass stains on the bottom of my feet
The only home I've ever known is out there on the streets
You call me insane
Oh honey, that's my middle name
I don't care which way the wind will blow
'Cause I don't know
So down the road I go
You see I tried to settle down not too long ago
You can lock my body up but you can't calm my soul
I don't want to hurt you or put you on a shelf
But my daddy told me all my life you've got to be yourself
You call me insane
Honey, that's my middle name
I don't care which way the wind'll blow
'Cause I don't know
So down the road I go

Oh get on
I'm sure there's lots of guys out there who've learned to toe the line
Compared to them my life may look a wreck
Girl, you've been to college so you should know by now
And if you can't understand me, what the hell did you expect?
I'm giving you fair warning, I'm gonna say goodbye
And when I'm walkin' out the door don't want to hear you cry
There's so much highway out there that I ain't never seen
All I need is cigarettes, guitars and gasoline
You call me insane
Honey, that's my middle name
I don't care which way the wind'll blow
'Cause I don't know
So honey down the road I go
Down the road I go
I'll see you around
'Cause I'm leavin' town
Yeah, yeah, yeah

James Travis Tritt (born February 9, 1963) is an American country music singer. He now resides in Hiram, Georgia off Travis Tritt Highway.

Tritt was born in Marietta, Georgia to James and Gwen Tritt. At age 3, he received his first guitar from his father. By 22, he had been through two divorces and had committed himself entirely to his music career. He has been a member of the Grand Ole Opry since 1992. Today, he and wife Theresa have three children: Tyler Reese (born February 18, 1998), Tristan James (born June 16, 1999) and Terian Nathaniel (born November 20, 2003).

His breakthrough came with his first album, Country Club, from which three singles were released, as well as his first No. 1 hit with "Help Me Hold On". His second album, It's All About To Change, produced two top 3 hits including: "Anymore", "The Whiskey Ain't Workin'", and "Here's A Quarter (Call Someone Who Cares)". The song "Bible Belt" was used in the movie, My Cousin Vinny, and, for which, he composed alternate lyrics exclusively for the use of the film.

Tritt has released a trilogy of music videos describing the tale of two paralyzed war veterans: Mac Singleton and his friend Al. In the video for "Tell Me I was Dreaming", Tritt plays Singleton, a wheelchair bound veteran who tries to rescue his pregnant wife Annie from slipping off a boat, subsequently hitting her head on the side of the dock. She dies, but their baby, Annie, survives. The third video shows what happened with Singleton and his daughter after the second video.

Tritt's latest album, My Honky Tonk History, showcases a wide range of styles, from love ballads to energetic footstompers.
