Kakande is the band whose leading musician is Famoro Dioubate, a highly talanted balafonist from Guinea, West Africa. He comes from a lineage of griot (djeli), traceable to Malian king Sundiata Keita, who record the histories of the area. He is the grandson of a loved balafonist El Hadj Djeli Sory Kouyaté. The group was formed after Dioubate moved to New York, and is the name of his home village. Their first release in 2008 was Dununya on Jumbie Records.
