Empire of One Lyrics

Empire of one (Empire of one)
Misfortunate son (A kiss to the don)
Auto-hypnotic lecture short-circuit (Holding court in a rented room)
Condition chronic (Suspicions static)
Mouth like a senator (Hung like a cheap suit)
Sings like a salesman (Drunk on the audience)Empire of one (Empire of one)
Respect to the don (Misfortunate son)
Holding court (Sucks up to emcee)
In a rented room (The one-ring circus)
Puts a theory (Condition chronic)
To the test on you (Mouth like a senator)
One lucky audience (Sold on the salesmen)Lackluster hero
Go back to zeroEmpire of one (Empire of one)
The subjects are gone (Misfortunate son)
Meager returns (Seated and burns)
On a king's star-time charm (On a brown tar time-bomb)
Doffs the crown (Bitter tonic)
To stagger home (Tight like a tourniquet)

Drunk on the obvious (Sings like a salesman)Empire of one (Empire of one)
Misfortunate son (The suspects are gone)
Auto-hypnotic lecture short-circuit (Auto-hypnotic lecture short-circuit)
Condition chronic (Dons the crown to swagger alone)
Tight like a tourniquet (Drunk on the obvious)
Sings like a salesmanLackluster hero
Go back to zeroTrying to talk to (Past mouth and through you)
Past mouth and through you (talk through to you)Lackluster hero
Go back to zero

Jawbox was a post-hardcore band which formed in 1989 in Washington D.C., United States. The band consisted of J Robbins (vocals, guitar), Bill Barbot (guitar), Kim Coletta (bass) and Adam Wade (drums). The band split in 1997. In their eight-year existence, Jawbox released four studio albums of increasingly skillful post-punk, not necessarily carrying the torch of their Washington DC, elders (Minor Threat, Embrace, Rites of Spring), but instead building on the tradition of Chicago's thriving early-'80s scene (Big Black, Naked Raygun, Effigies).
