False Friends Lyrics

Just when I thought everything was good
Friend I guess I misunderstood
Thought that we had mutual respect
Now I see the thanks that we get
So be careful who you choose as your friends
For they might let you down in the end
Just when I thought, a real good friend I found
They pick you up to let you down, yeah
Them let you down down down
They let you down down down
Them let you down down down
Down down down down down
So my son always bear in mind
A faithful friend is the hardest thing to find
It is better an open enemy

A false friend is the hardest thing to see
'Cause when times are good when the friends are plenty
In times of trouble, we're not one in twenty
Just when I thought, a real good friend I found
They pick you up to let you down, ah
We were friends, we were friends
Real good friends, we were friends
We were friends, we were friends
And I remember when
Just when I thought everything was good
My friend I guess I misunderstood
Thought that we had love and respect
But now I see the thanks that we get
So I'm careful who I choose as my friends
For they might let me down in the end
Just a thought, when I thought, when I thought
Them let you down down down
Them let you down down down
Them let you down down down
Down down down down down
They let you down down down
Them let you down down down
Them let you down down down
Down down down down down
We were friends, we were friends
Real good friends, real good friends
We were friends, we were friends
And I remember when were good friends
Real good friends

Born Eugene Booker McDaniels, a name he used in later life, in Kansas City on February 12, 1935, Gene was a former gospel singer, signed to Liberty Records in the early 1960's where he scored American hits with original version of "Tower Of Strength" (covered successfully in the UK by Frankie Vaughan) and "A Hundred Pounds Of Clay", a UK hit for Craig Douglas. However, his influence on UK copyists brought him on a nationwide cinema tour with Gary U.S. Bonds and Johnny Burnette as well as an appearance in "It's Trad Dad", one of a series of pop-based movies of the time.
