Festival 48 - Paulus Schafer

Paulus Schäfer (born 31 03 1978 and living in Nuenen) and The Paulus Schäfer Gipsy Band are playing jazz which finds its roots in Django Reinhardt’s “Hot Club de France”, but spiced with funky and pop elements!

This group is playing a catchy sound with enormous lots of energy and with strong individuality, which is not easy in this style of music. Having their roots in the Dutch Sinti community they manage to keep the characteristic sound and mastery of the style. Their music is often up-tempo, but always justified by the arrangements and virtuosity of Paulus.

The Group is often assisted by several guest musicians, among which are: Feigeli Prisor (guitar), Tim Kliphuis (violin) and Wattie Rosenberg (violin). But also Paulus is a guest musician on high demand invited by The Rosenberg Trio, Andreas Öberg and the Prisor Jazz Band, in which Sendelo Schäfer also plays the rhythm guitar, as seen at the Gipsy Swing Festival Anger (Fr) 2004, Khamorro Festival the International Gipsy Guitar Festival in Gossington (UK) in 2004, 2008, Django Reinhardt Festival (Fr) 2004, Khamoro World Roma Festival Prague (2004), Sziget Festival Budapest (Hu) 2005, Christianshavns Beboerhus Copenhagen (De) 2007, North West (USA) 2010 and several editions of the International Gipsy Festival in Tilburg. After their adventure with the Tilburg Big Band, Paulus Schäfer will record a new album this year.
