Gary Young (born May 3, 1953 in Mamaroneck, New York) is an alternative rock musician who garnered a degree of notoriety as the original drummer for the band Pavement. During the band's initial period in 1989, Young, then in his mid thirties, had singer-guitarists Stephen Malkmus and Scott Kannberg record at his in-home Stockton, California studio, "Louder Than You Think". A multi-instrumentalist, Young sat in as their drummer.
