Ghetto Superman Lyrics

Ha, ha, I'm fine y'all
It's your boy Ghetto Superman
A.k.a Lyfe, a.k.a don't got a wife
What up Young Boy?Everybody talkin' about livin' on Capital Hill
We livin' on the hill, ya know?
Talkin' about the front row, front row?
We livin' on death rowWe grew up in the gutter
Eatin' peanut butter sandwiches with no jam
We looked up to the hustlers on the corner
Throat sore from screamin', "Get your money man"Had dreams of movin' on up to the big leagues
Like George, Weezy and Florence
But it's kinda hard when police is havin' you killed
Resurrected, rearrested for old bench warrantsYeah, it's a struggle man, but we handle it the best we can
Only difference between folks that's free and folks in jail
Is some of us got caught on our way to Heaven
Takin' the shortcut through HellGhetto Superman, faster than a speeding Cadillac
Able to leap tall buildings
When police is on your back, yeah

It's a bird, it's a plane, noIt's Ghetto Superman, talk slick as Republicans
Sold almost as much dope as Uncle Sam
Your friendly neighborhood SupermanIf you played on my playground
You'd be used to hearin', "Stay down, they shootin'"
Lost my daddy in a shoot out, chest all blew out
Another family ruinedHad dreams of findin' a good job
So he wouldn't have to rob niggas, I'm a stick up kid
Finally get what we deserved
Instead of havin' to take what they give usYeah, it's a struggle man but we takin' it
One bullet at a time
But it's kinda hard to get that monkey off your back
While that monkey still on your mind, on your mindSuperman, faster than a speeding Cadillac
Able to leap tall buildings
When police is on your back, yeah
It's a bird, it's a plane, noIt's Ghetto Superman, talk slick as Republicans
Sold almost as much dope as Uncle Sam
Your friendly neighborhood SupermanIt's a bird, it's a plane, no
It's Ghetto Superman, y'all
It's a bird, it's a plane, no
It's Ghetto Superman, y'allIt's a bird, it's a plane, no
It's Ghetto Superman, y'all
It's a bird, it's a plane, no
It's Ghetto Superman, y'all

Lyfe Jennings (born Chester Jennings in Toledo, Ohio) is an African American R&B and soul singer-songwriter, record producer, and instrumentalist. He plays the guitar, bass, and piano which he integrates into his music.

Jennings began singing at a young age in a Toledo church choir. He later joined a group called The Dotsons with two of his cousins and his older brother, Jay. The group separated in the early 1990s, and Jennings rediscovered music and started a music program at an Ohio prison where he was serving a ten-year sentence on an arson-related charge. He has cited Erykah Badu's 1997 album Baduizm as one of the reasons for his rediscovery. Jennings was released from prison in December 2002 and started to pursue a solo career in music. In January 2003, he performed in Harlem at the Showtime at The Apollo. The same year, he also independently released his first EP, What Is Love. To further pursue his career, Jennings moved to New York City where he performed at rapper Nelly's concert at Radio City Music Hall, at an NAACP convention where he performed an original song called "Thank God for the NAACP", and at the Cafeteria in Chelsea, Manhattan during the blackout on August 14. He signed with Columbia Records and released his debut album Lyfe 268-192 (268-192 was his inmate number) in August 2004. His first single was Stick Up Kid, which didn't see much sucess until after the album was released. The album featured his hit single "Must Be Nice". Jennings' second album The Phoenix was released in August 2006. The first single, "S.E.X.", feautures Jennings' protégé, singer LaLa Brown.
